Visa Letters
Visa invitation letters will only be issued to attendees who have paid their registration fees in full and are eligible to travel to Canada. Attendees will need to check locally (for their country of origin-citizenship) to determine the visa requirements for travel to Canada and whether they require an invitation letter from the conference. If you require a letter, when you have completed your registration and paid your fees, complete the information requested in the Request for Visa Assistance form and email it to visa@ipdps.org.
Although some people may need only their valid passport, most will require a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization to travel to Canada. Be sure to check carefully as to what requirements apply to you. Go to this website to determine what you need to travel to, or transit through, Canada.
If a visa is required, note that Canada does not have a visa office in every country so it is important that delegates visit the website of the Canadian visa office (see this site for locations) responsible for processing their visa application. Information is available on the CIC website on how to submit a visa application and the documentation required.
Processing times for visa applications vary depending on the visa office and the time of the year. Participants are encouraged to apply approximately 12 weeks in advance of their departure date to ensure they receive the visa in time. The International Events and Convention Services Program (IECSP) of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has officially recognized the conference, and the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada 6-character Special Event Code for this conference is “18IPDS” should this information be required in your visa application.
Student Travel Assistance
A limited number of travel assistance grants will be available through the IPDPS sponsor, the IEEE Computer Society's Technical Committee on Parallel Processing (TCPP). In addition, funds for travel support to full time students attending US colleges and universities will be available through a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Application details will be posted on the IPDPS Website in February. Note that all student authors must have registered to be eligible for support and must be a member of IEEE. All student travel grants are made in the form of reimbursement post-conference.
