Second Merged Symposium IPPS/SPDP 1999
13th International Parallel Processing Symposium & 10th Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing
April 12 - April 16, 1999
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Sponsored by
IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Parallel Processing
In cooperation with:
ACM SIGARCH,
IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Computer Architecture (TCCA),
and
IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Distributed Processing (TCDP),
1999 will mark the 2nd anniversary of the merger of IPPS and SPDP. This united
symposium, now referred to as IPPS/SPDP, will follow the format of previous
meetings. It continues to serve as a forum for engineers and scientists from
around the world to present their latest research findings in the fields of
parallel processing and distributed computing. In this second year of
conducting a joint program, IPPS/SPDP moves toward achieving an agenda
responsive to the combined constituencies of two well-established events.
Sponsored by the TCPP and held in cooperation with ACM SIGARCH as well as
the IEEE Computer Society's Technical Committees on Computer Architecture &
Distributed Processing, IPPS/SPDP responds to the many topics generated by
the intersection of these areas of interest, as well as established topics in
each area. In addition to technical sessions of submitted paper
presentations and addresses by invited speakers, the expanded agenda of
IPPS/SPDP'99 will be explored via panels, workshops, tutorials, an
industrial track, and commercial exhibits.

To submit an original research paper, send your complete manuscript
(not to exceed 15 single-spaced pages of text using 12 point size
type on 8.5 x 11 inch pages) to the Program Chair. References,
figures, tables, etc. may be included in addition to the fifteen
pages of text. Electronic submissions are encouraged and should be
sent to {ipps99 or spdp99}@cs.purdue.edu. Electronic submissions must
be in the form of a readable postscript file containing the following
header information in ASCII form: title, author name(s), abstract,
postal address, e-mail address, and telephone and fax numbers. The
header (in ASCII) should be followed by the postscript version of
the complete manuscript (including title, author's name, affiliation,
and abstract). Authors should submit a correct PostScript (level 2)
file of their paper to be considered and make sure that the PostScript
file will print on a PostScript printer that uses 8.5 x 11 inch (US
letter size) paper.
All manuscripts will be reviewed. Manuscripts must be received by
September 21, 1998. Submissions received after the due date or
exceeding the length limit may not be considered. Notification of
review decisions will be mailed by December 14, 1998. Camera-ready
papers are due January 25, 1999. Proceedings will be available at
the Symposium. Fax submissions will not be considered. Hard copy
submissions are also permitted and, like electronic submissions,
must be received by September 21, 1998. Authors who submit a
hard copy must also send an electronic mail message containing all
of the header information listed above, as well as sending six
copies of the printed manuscript to:

INDUSTRIAL TRACK/COMMERCIAL EXHIBITS
The Industrial Track consists of original technical papers from participating
companies. Topics may include descriptions, comparisons, or evaluations of
the design, implementation, or performance of an existing commercial system.
Commercial Exhibits allow vendors to display their products in an informal
walk-up-and-talk setting. The closing date for companies wishing to participate
is October 30, 1998. For details and to make sure your company is on
the IPPS mailing list, contact:

IPPS/SPDP'99 TRAVELS TO THE CARIBBEAN
In 1999, pack your swimsuits and walking shoes to prepare for a Caribbean
week in the U.S. Territory of Puerto Rico where the year round temperature
averages 78 degrees. IPPS/SPDP'99 will be held at the Caribe Hilton, a
five-star beachfront hotel available to us at a moderate rate. It is
located next to Old San Juan, an area of the city which reflects nearly 500
years of history in its restored Spanish colonial architecture. The island
is 100 by 35 miles in size, and exploration of the interior reveals the
lush vegetation and wildlife of rain forests and mangroves as well as caves
and lagoons.
Many airlines offering low fares have direct service to Puerto Rico, making
it the most accessible island in the West Indies. Once there, when not
participating in the symposium, there are opportunities for locally
organized day trips to nearby islands and, of course, every form of
watersport including sailing, scuba, and snorkeling. Nightlife offers a
full menu of cosmopolitan dining and music, as well as "Vegas in the
tropics" which describes the San Juan hotel strip featuring spectacular
show revues and casinos.
Indeed, the 1999 setting has something for everyone!
