*IPDPS 2024 PhD FORUM* ------------------------------------
IEEE IPDPS 2024
38th IEEE International Parallel &
Distributed Processing Symposium
May 27-31, 2024
San Francisco, California USA

* IPDPS 2024 PhD Forum - CALL FOR APPLICATIONS*
* Background*
The IPDPS PhD Forum focuses on current graduate students working toward a
PhD in broadly defined areas related to parallel and distributed
processing. Previous IPDPS PhD forums have offered graduate students an
opportunity to present a research poster describing their ongoing research
to the entire IPDPS conference audience, and to discuss their research with
experts in academia and industry, and to make useful contacts regarding
future career opportunities.

* PhD Forum Program* At IPDPS 2024 in San Francisco, we will continue with
this tradition of poster presentation. Participating students will have the
opportunity to both present their research work and interact with senior
academic and industry people in an informal setting. In addition, there
will be mentoring sessions to help students improve communication skills,
obtain valuable information for career planning, get familiar with a few of
the trendy research topics, and make valuable contacts – all while enjoying
the IPDPS main conference and many associated workshops. The program will
culminate with a poster presentation, where students will have the
opportunity to practice what they learned and disseminate their work to the
broader IPDPS audience.

* Who Should Apply* Applicant students must be officially enrolled in a PhD
Program at the time of submission, and each submission MUST be backed by a
specific endorsement from the official PhD advisor(s) as specified in item
3 below. Masters students on track to enter a PhD program may apply but
should meet the same standards as other applicants.

* What/Where to Submit Application* Go to web page here for details and to
submit application.

The web page provides instructions for applicants to prepare a submission
document that addresses items 1 & 2 below. Applicants should arrange for
item 3 – advisor statement of support – to be emailed by the time they
submit their application.

1. Applicant Statement of Interest
2. Poster Proposal Text
3. Advisor Statement of Support

* Important Dates* The goal is to accept as many applications as our
capacity allows, but the availability of our resources, as well as other
screening factors, will limit the number of participants in the program.
To be fair, we will employ a “first-come-first-served” approach, with a
rolling selection process to be used until the capacity is reached, based
on the following schedule:

* Application received by Acceptance notice will be
sent by* 29-Feb-2024 10-Mar-2024
15-Mar-2023 25-Mar-2023
31-March-2023 10-April-2023

* Review of Applications* A committee drawn from the IPDPS community and
representative of the different areas of research that the conference
embraces will review the applications in concert with the PhD Forum chairs.
By submitting an application, the student is making a commitment to prepare
and attend the conference in order to present a poster and participate in
the mentoring and networking opportunities afforded by the conference.

The Student Research Program will be scheduled so that the participating
students can follow all the main scientific and social events of the
conference, and it is open to all students, including the authors of papers
presented at the conference. The conference will publish abstracts for the
posters accepted for presentation at the PhD Forum. These will be included
as part of the conference workshops proceedings (IPDPSW 2024). The
abstracts will be formatted as part of a compendium that includes contact
information for the poster authors and advisors.

* IPDPS 2024 PhD Forum Chair & Vice-chair* Sanmukh Kuppannagari, Case
Western Reserve University, USA
Tanwi Malick, Argonne National Laboratory, USA

* IPDPS 2024 VENUE AND PROGRAM* IPDPS 2024 will be held at the four-star
Hyatt Regency San Francisco located at 5 Embarcadero, along the city’s
eastern shoreline with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Starting from the
hotel’s waterfront location, guests can enjoy many of the area’s prime
tourist spots and explore nearby coastal and inland spots of interest. The
Bay Area is one of the few regions in the world with three transit-friendly
major international airports: San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose.
